Notes from the Word: Pastor Andrew
Readings found in Numbers 13:25-33
The land is indeed flowing with milk and honey! However the people are strong and the walls are high. The spies gave a negative report.
The problem?
Spies of Israel went into the promised land and, after 40 days, they came back and reported that the land is, indeed, everything that God has promised. But there was a big problem. The problem was the people (eish! people often cause problems!). The people were stronger, bigger, better warriors than them, the spies reported. The spies said there was ‘no way’ the Israelites could fight and win against the people occupying the land. “When we looked at the Giants, we were in our own sights grasshoppers.”
How do you see yourself?
The reason why many people take advantage of you is because you doubt in yourself. The way you see yourself is the way others will see you. People will take advantage of you if you don’t know who you are in Christ. God promised Israel that land, but the way they perceived themselves was that they were inferior to their enemy.
Be strong!
Be more courageous, be strong, be a man, be a woman, stand your ground! Don’t be quickly intimidated and quickly hurt. Stop doubting yourself and refuse to let the devil walk over you. Know who you are in Christ. Become bold
Stop comparing yourself to the giant:
There will always be giants along your path. All of our giants are different. After the 10 spies delivered their negative report, the whole land believed their report. They negatively influenced the masses!
Stand with Caleb & Joshua (the only two spies who trusted in God):
Caleb & Joshua became angry at the negative report, they believed that God would deliver the land unto them. “Don’t fear the people of the land, they are bread for us!” Num14:9
Fear not and be encouraged was their message to the people of Israel. When they looked at the giants they didn’t have the same mind set as the other spies.
God is on your side
Be encouraged, don’t waste time. Stop looking to the negative report. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. Let the giant come, you know who you can depend on! God is on your side! Believe the report of the Lord! Don’t look at the giant, look at God.
