Notes From the Word: Odile Esau
Blessing us on Sunday was CCFM presenter Odile Esau in a message on Unforgiveness. In case you missed it, here’s the revelations and teachings revealed to us through the Word:
Unforgiveness:
-The act of letting go of a demand for payment of a debt that is owed
-Matt 18:32-35
“Jesus speaks of a King who had a servant who owes him a big debt, the King decides to sell the servant to reconcile his debt. The servant begs for mercy and asks for time. The King agrees and forgives the servant’s full debt after his heart was moved.”
– The act of forgiveness sounds quite simple
– We often confuse forgiveness as a single willful act
– Yet it’s an ongoing process that starts in your heart
– There are consequences to unforgiveness
– If left untreated has the ability to manifest itself as a physical illness
– Unforgiveness means you grieve the Holy Spirit
– It speaks of pride and God hates pride
– You lose the potential of your anointing
– When unforgiveness sets, anointing lifts
– There is no authentic fellowship with the Father, it shows indifference to what God has done for us
– God showed mercy to ensure our lives and when we choose not to forgive, it’s an insult to God
– Unforgiveness strips you from a relationship with the Father
– Unforgiveness is like staying in a prison without bail
How The Forgive:
– It’s a movement of the heart
– To be in a position to forgive, we must get off our high horses and humble ourselves
– Stop looking down on those who wounded you
– You need to forgive when it seems impossible
– There are instances of huge wounds or repetitive poor behaviour
– But there are ways to soften our hearts
– Put yourself in the offender’s shoes, and try to relate because hurt people, hurt people!
– Look inside yourself! Have you ever done something similar to another person?
– Pray for those you have to forgive
– The bible tells us to pray for others
– Ask God to help them, bless them, and forgive them
– Forgiveness has a price
– Be gracious
– It is the work of God’s grace that helps us to forgive
– Ask the Holy Spirit for help and ask for your heart to be healed
– Speak forgiveness into the atmosphere, say “I forgive you”
– Jesus was able to endure the cross, and forgive those who turned on him
– That is the Jesus that we serve
– Learn from and lean hard on the example Jesus set us
